She waited 8 years to hear him call her mom

The joy of being a parent is unrivaled! A child is a source of love and joy in every house. This new life alters everyone around them. Every time he smiles, it makes you smile. And every time he cries, it breaks your heart. Your heart fills with joy when you hear him call you mama or dada. It’s one of those things you look forward to!

What happens when you have to wait 8 years before you can hear your child call you mom?

Little Leo was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4. He wasn’t always showing symptoms of autism though. He was a bright child, he understood what they said and he even tried to speak.

Marina Vergini, mother of Leo, had this to say, “He had a history of normal milestone development, with well developed speech and spoke words like ‘pasta’, ’biscuit’, ’juice’. He was a bright kid and had a good grasping power. But later at 2 and a half years he regressed and we started noticing that he had poor social interaction along with regression in speech. We then consulted a psychiatrist and Leo was diagnosed as a case of Autism at the age of 4 and a half years. Since then he was going to a normal school with a shadow teacher, later at 6 and a half years we sent him to a special school and also started with Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy once a week”.

Despite the prognosis, Leo’s parents refused to give up. Leo’s parents had heard of research in a new treatment that could be the answer to their problems. Stem cell therapy is a part of regenerative medicine. It changed how the world of medicine functioned. The shackles of an “untreatable neurological condition” were finally broken!

Leo travelled all the way from London to us at NeuroGen in India with the hope that this might work for him. And they weren’t disappointed. Leo, now 9 years old, underwent stem cell therapy. The improvement seen in him was a treat to watch!

The very first thing that he did after the treatment was, call his mother ‘mama’!

But there was more! Before the therapy, he could hardly sit at one place for 10 seconds. Now he can sit for 6 hours straight, for 5 days a week! His school teachers, who said we can’t help him with much, now say he is a fast learner.  He couldn’t even hold a pen and today, little Leo is writing. Writing such that everybody loves his handwriting! He can identify his body parts. You ask him where his nose is and he will point straight at it! Something he could never identify before. He couldn’t stand on one leg before and today our champ ice skates on one leg. He used to love being alone, in a room or a corner. Now he forces people to give him attention. He plays with his parents. He even forces his homework in front of mothers face. Especially if she is busy doing something else.

Little Leo has showed such tremendous improvement. His parents had to share their joy with us! In this video, they not only tell us how he is doing now but also share a few clips of the amazing things he can do now.
