Every child is a special gift from God and Shrirang’s story is no less. His parents were delighted to have him since the time he was born. But as he grew up, things didn’t look too bright for Shrirang. His mother took note of his son’s growing hyperactivity and uncontrollable behaviour. When he was all of five and a half years, he was detected with Autism and intellectual disability by a psychologist.
His mother was a special educator herself and she knew there was a way out for this. Unlike other parents who might have given up on hope, Shrirang’s parents knew that it was not the worst thing that had happened to their son. Shortly afterwards, they were disappointed with the kind of therapies suggested or given for their son. At one point of time, they got frustrated realizing the lack of awareness of Autism in the country. It was saddening for both parents to see the lack of adequate professionals to help children such as Shrirang. But his parents were not one to give up on their son so easily. Every day his sweet innocent smile would motivate them. They started a special therapy group for Autistic children from poor backgrounds in Shrirang’s name. This therapy session was held together based on International standard.
Alongside Mr and Mrs. Chandekar kept themselves updated with all the new developments happening in the related field. They found the answer in stem cell therapy. Shrirang’s mother is now running two schools for children with autism and come from the lower socio-economic zones.
