A team of Indian doctors at the internationally renowned stem cell center, NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute, performed Neuroregenerative Rehabilitative Therapy, to treat a young man who was left paralysed below the waist with no bladder or bowel sensation. Mohammed Abid Ansari (28) survived a road accident in Saudi Arabia and recently underwent an adult autologous bone marrow transplantation (stem cell therapy), of his own stem cells. Abid confirms the encouraging result and shares his experience of stem cell therapy.
In 2015, Mohammed Abid Ansari met with a life altering accident which sentenced him to paraplegia and a life of dependence. In pursuit of recovery, he was treated at various hospitals in Saudi Arabia, underwent spine stabilisation surgery and physiotherapy treatment in Ha’il, but couldn’t witness any significant improvement in his condition. Due to being bedridden he developed several painful bedsores. Disheartened, he moved back to India. He turned to various alternative medications like Homeopathy, Ayurveda, oil massage therapy, etc but they failed to result in any substantial improvements either.
After a lot of research online, he came to know about NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute in Mumbai. “I read about the institute, followed patient testimonials and consulted with their doctors online initially,” said Ansari. After consulting the doctors at the Institute, he was advised stem cell therapy and underwent treatment in February 2018 at NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute.
Dr. Richa Bansod, one of the senior doctors at NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute, said, “He had no bladder-bowel control, no sensation waist down, virtually no mobility and was dependent on others for all his daily activities. Stem cells collected from the bone marrow of his hip region were injected into his spine. He underwent the rehabilitative therapy for a week. He is much better now.”
Abid has been gradually regaining sensation in his lower body. With regular intensive rehabilitation and time, he was able to turn in bed, transfer him to the wheelchair and also move around with the help of crutches. “Regaining independence bit by bit was such an awesome experience,” he said.
