According to NCBI, 3 out of every 1000 children born in India suffer from cerebral palsy. IICP India says that there are 33,000 people in India who live with cerebral palsy. World Health Organization (WHO) states that 15% to 20% of the disabled and challenged children in the country have cerebral palsy. The numbers are so staggering that according to IICP India across the world, 1 child of every 500 children born has cerebral palsy!

This condition that affects so many young and innocent lives is, in reality, a group of conditions that affect the ability to move. This effect can be on any type of movement. It is usually caused due to an injury to the brain during the developmental state of fetus before birth. Cerebral Palsy condition can also vary from a mild to a severe state. Mild cases are lucky little ones who feel only a slight disruption in their ability to live life independently. Severe cases are the ones who can barely move or do anything on their own. Traditional medicine has no cure for such acute cases. Fortunately, science has moved on to regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy has proved to be effective for patients with severe cerebral palsy symptoms. Stem cell therapy is nothing but obtaining adult stem cells from the bone marrow of the patient and then reinjecting them into the spine after a purification process. These stem cells then divide further to replace the old damaged and scarred tissue with newer cells.

Although there is no assured cure for this condition, there has been an improvement in the quality of life as well as reducing the severity of the symptoms via stem cell therapy. Today we bring you 5 such cases who have benefitted.
