Everything was going great for Joshua Cooper. He had a loving family and an equally supportive wife. Life was picture perfect life and he couldn’t wish for more happiness. But every perfect story meets with one tragedy at least, Joshua also had to face one such issue. One morning after his early walk, he felt physically drained and numb. He dismissed those signs thinking that he might have exerted too much pressure on himself. Days went by and he felt that his strength was slipping from him. When he went on his daily run, he fell a few times, until he could not term it as mere coincidence. To make matter worse, the pain became increasingly intolerable.
This went on for three long years until in 2006; he was detected with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. He went through a series of physical therapy and medication but none could help him out. He was really saddened but somewhere deep inside he believed that there had to be a cure for his case. One evening, he was reading up on some patient’s story with similar problems as his. That time, he came across some testimonial videos of NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute.
Joshua knew where his calling was and was determined to fly to India and visit the doctors. He flew down to India on March 2013. The doctors went through his previous reports which indicated that he experienced imbalance, early fatigue while walking, increase of pain and sweating in bilateral lower extremities. Furthermore, they learnt he needed support, could not climb stairs and get up from the floor since the past three to four years.
Patient’s Life after treatment at NeuroGen
The doctors suggested that he go for stem cell therapy along with a customized rehabilitation program. In this program, he was assigned with some exercises to improve his ankle and toe movements, strengthen his weak muscles and improve on his overall balance especially while walking. Therapy was given to him to increase strength in his lower and upper body too.
After the therapy, his stamina was restored. He could go on with his normal routine exercises for longer time. Day after day, he found that his strength coming back to him. He came back to Neurogen for his routine checkup. Seeing his improvements, he is planning to go in for a second round of stem cell therapy.
How has it impacted the life of those around him?
Joshua’s inner strength and sheer will is beyond commendable. He took it upon himself to seek out for a normal life always making sure that he did not show his raw emotions to his wife and family. Joshua’s family and wife were praying throughout that Joshua’s hope did not go in vain. Today, Joshua has left his bad memories behind him and successfully running an interior designing business. He credits his loved ones for always standing for him and supporting him throughout. It seems like the prayers of his loved ones have payed off and they can’t seem to be happier!
