What began like a normal check-up procedure for their baby Suresh turned into not very good news for the Menon family! When Suresh was all of nine months, his parents realized something was not right with his development and growth. They decided to show him to a neurologist and were dismayed to hear that their beautiful son had cerebral palsy. Mr. and Mrs. Menon wasted no time in seeking out for the best medical help. They tried out physiotherapy and a few other rehabilitation programmes thinking it would improve the condition of their son. But unfortunately, for them, that is not what happened. During this rough phase, a doctor introduced them to stem cell therapy. Thus began their search which brought them to the doorstep of Neurogen Brain and Spine Institute.
They consulted Dr. Alok Sharma and Dr. Nandini Gokulchandran who introduced them to the concept of stem cell therapy. On the 1st of July 2014, Suresh was brought to Neurogen. During this time, he could not sit, walk, and stand on his own. Further, his equilibrium and disassociation reactions were very weak. He needed someone’s help to help him turn over his body while sleeping or taking rest.
Patient’s Life after treatment at Neurogen
In the month of August 2014, Suresh underwent stem cell therapy together with rehabilitation program. This program helped Suresh to develop normal milestones.
Suresh had to do a series of exercises to build up strength in his trunk muscles and develop his balancing power. Since his speech was not clear, a speech therapist was assigned to help him out. During his entire planned sessions of therapy, Suresh gained a lot of strength and stamina. After the therapy, Suresh was an active child. He slowly started interacting with kids of his age too.
How did it impact the lives of those around him?
Suresh’s recovery was a triumph for Mr. and Mrs. Menon. They had no idea what cerebral palsy was until they were faced with it. What Neurogen brought to their life was hope. And that is all they needed to keep going. Suresh had a changed child but for the better. They are celebrating each moment with him and are eager to watch him take his first steps independently. Sometimes, when nothing remains the same, it is a great thing!
