The struggle was long and hard for Boman Roy and his parents. For 20 long years, Boman suffered from a string of disorders. He was quite fit physically and would play all day long just like how a normal kid would. But what worried his parents was his lack of interaction with other people. He would remain aloof and stayed quiet the whole time. It became too hard for his parents to ignore his peculiar habit and decided to show him to a doctor.
After a couple of visitations, a child specialist gave away the shocking news that Boman was suffering from autism. On further examination, his reports showed poor oromotor development, awkward posture and hand movements, less attention span and concentration, lack of social interaction, reduced drive of cognitive and perceptual skills. Despite her lack of ignorance towards what autism was, his mother held her ground and decided that this was not the end for her son, Boman. She read up a lot on that matter and realized that her son had every bit of chance to lead a normal life.
On the doctor’s advice, Boman underwent speech therapy, psychological counselling and occupational therapy. His parents did not want to leave any stone unturned and even got him admitted to a special school. Although there were slight improvements seen in him, his parents remain dissatisfied. It was not something they expected. Even after the therapy, Boman would hardly speak up and murmur just some few words.
During one of this hard phase, they came across a newspaper article that gave special mention on NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute and their amazing concept of Stem Cell Therapy. The next thing, they knew was contacting the hospital and setting up a consultation with the doctors Dr. Alok Sharma and Dr. Nandini Gokulchandran. They were really apprehensive but at the same time wanted to go ahead with the therapy. Their strong intuition led them through the whole process.
Boman’s Life after stem cell therapy at NeuroGen
After much deliberation and thought, Boman Roy’s therapy date was fixed on 24THJuly 2014. As scheduled, he underwent Stem Cell Therapy at NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute on the said date. After that, he was sent for an extensive rehabilitation program under the supervision of some of the best specialists. His case was handled with utmost care and they crafted out all his sessions like speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychological and physiotherapy according to his temperament. All these sessions helped to work on his skills, abilities and overall development.
The improvisations seen in Boman were completely unbelievable. His condition improved rapidly and with such amazing results. He was no longer distracted at the flip of a second and could hold his attention for long. His parents had to no longer command him to make him listen to their orders. Unlike other times, he was more patient in sitting down or doing other stuffs for that matter. As for his studies, he was doing very well whether it was in reciting poems and memorizing his lesson. Boman grew closer to his parents through the whole process.
How has it impacted the life of those around him?
Now, there is no one happier than Boman’s parents are today. They are eager to lend him all the care that he needs with renewed hope. For his mother, the most cherished memory remains when Boman uttered the words clearly ‘Khaya Khaya just two days after the therapy. His improvement has brought happiness and inspired everyone around him including his teachers. His teacher has started taking note of his active involvement in school activities.
