Bringing up one child with autism can be challenging, especially when people do not understand the reason behind this disorder. Think about the plight of couples parenting and caring for triplets with special needs. It can be stressful, daunting and full of negative emotions.
Here’s a real-life experience of the Kairichi family from Nairobi, Kenya, where Mercy (mother) and Henry (father) shared the challenges they face in bringing up their triplets, Rick, Eric and Lenny, with autism. They faced a lot of humiliation from their neighbours who wanted the kids to be locked indoors. They searched for a cure and tried all possible treatments in the country, however, there was no significant improvement seen in the kids. They at times were unmanageable, threw tantrums, bit, spat and had to be physically held down. Still, the determined parents never gave up.
Mercy was informed about a seminar where Dr. Alok Sharma, Director of NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute in Mumbai (India) would be addressing the audience about stem cell treatment for patients with autism and other neurological disorders. There he informed the crowd about the treatment with stem cells. After a brief meeting with Dr. Alok Sharma, the Kairichi couple along with their triplet flew down to India. They visited NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute and were impressed by its infrastructure. They stayed here for four months. After several brain scan and essential tests, the kids underwent this ‘simple and safe’ treatment.
The kids were wheeled into the operation theatre where healthy stem cells were derived from the marrow of the pelvic bone of each kid. The healthy stem cells were separated by the process of separation, filtration and purification after which they were infused into the lower area of the spine. Post treatment the kids were subjected to psychological intervention, speech therapy, art therapy, music therapy along with physiotherapy. They showed a lot of improvement after the treatment. They were calm, responded to their names and were able to say meaningful sentences. The Kairichis were overjoyed! Back home their neighbours were also amazed by their transformation. The Kairichi’s quest for a better life for their kids was now satiated!
Parents should avoid blaming themselves if they get stressed tending to their kids with special needs. Always remember that these kids can live happily and fulfilled lives with understanding, support and timely treatment at NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute.
